EZ Mender – We Compare it to Post Buddy & Fix-a-Fence

EZ Mender Fence Post Repair Kit

Do you have a wobbly fence? You may be able to fix it yourself without spending a bunch of money by using an EZ Mender fence support bracket.

As you can see in the photo on the left, the metal brace fits snugly around a 4×4 wood post. With a sledgehammer, you simply drive it down into the concrete footing along the 4×4 post.

Many times, the base of the post has rotted, making it unstable and causing the fence to sway. However, the softer base wood actually makes it easier to hammer in the EZ Mender. In other words, this job may be easier than it looks.

Pound the EZ Fence Mender into place, using the handy side notch. Then, secure the bracket to the post with screws. The video below shows how to do it step-by-step. Plus, it includes some more useful tips on completing your fence repair.

See what I mean? No need to dig a hole or pour more concrete. In addition to requiring a lot less time than a traditional fence post fix, you have much less work to do. This invention is brilliant.

Note: You can use this 2-pack set of EZ Menders to fix 1 fence post or 2. Sometimes, homeowners find it easier to install the EZ Mender on the face sides of the fence. In this case, you would use 2 brackets on opposite sides of the post.

Alternatively, you can fix a leaning fence by inserting the Fence Mender from the side (like in the above video). This option may require steps in regards to the horizontal beams, but probably less hammering. =)

All that said, the EZ Mender may not be your best solution. For instance, let’s compare it to 2 other popular support bracket kits: the Fix-a-Fence and Post Buddy.

EZ Fence Post Mender VS Fix-a-Fence:

If your existing concrete footing is also falling apart, the EZ mender may not add enough extra support to the post. In this case, you may want to try the Fix-a-Fence repair bracket.

You will need to dig a new hole and pour a new concrete footing, however, you can leave your current fence post intact. This DIY project requires a little more work, but may solve your problem without resorting to a more cost-intensive fence repair.

Keep in mind that you will need appropriate space to pour the new footing.

How to Install the Post Buddy Fence Post Repair Brackets with a Drill

In some cases, you may not have a 4×4 post and the EZ Fence Post Mender will not fit. You have another option here. You can use a couple of Post Buddy brackets to secure the fence post from 2 different sides.

These metal stakes work very much like the EZ Mender bracket. However, they have a narrower flat design, so they don’t have to fit exactly around a specific size post.

In addition, you can usually drive them down into the soil/footing much more easily.
